How are those efforts going, and why should Americans care? Patrick Gaspard, former United States Ambassador to South Africa, says "The United States, through its partners in the on global health security, have made enormous strides in the eradication of polio, the incredible progress that we've made on HIV and AIDS...through...simple and minor and low cost interventions...There are many reasons why Americans in particular have been focused on these issues and should continue to be focused."
