In this video, we look at John Bowlby's Monotropic Theory of Attachment at an introductory level. We define monotropic as an infant's requirement for a sole primary care giver, upon which all future attachments and relationships are based.


Bowlby's theory is an ethological theory, meaning that it developed out of studies on animals, not just humans. There is, therefore, an evolutionary bias to Bowlby's work, assuming innate commonalities between species, especially mammals.
