The AGM-183 ARRW is a hypersonic air-to-ground missile planned for use by the United States Air Force. Developed by Lockheed Martin, the boost-glide vehicle is propelled to a maximum speed of over Mach 5 by a rocket motor before hurtling toward its target. The program was canceled in March 2023 after several failed tests.
The Air Force took another step toward fielding a hypersonic weapon following the final carrier test of the AGM-183A Air-launched Rapid Response Weapon under the wing of a B-52 Stratofortress off the coast of Southern California, August 8. The AGM-183A is claimed to have a maximum speed of over 15,000 miles per hour (24,000 km/h; Mach 20).
