A new years resolution I found under a rock (in 2021)

Happy New Year! A story... I came across this old video I took back in 2021 that I forgot about... It's a new years resolution I found under a rock. While certainly cute at the time, I actually think it's quite profound 4 years later in 2025. Who was this person? Judging from the handwriting, maybe a girl? Are they happy with where they are now? Did they get that car? Are they happy with the choices they made and the circumstances that life dealt to them? What does their 2025 resolution look like, and what would they say if you showed them this old resolution of theirs?

There's a negative stigma around new years resolutions... So many of us look at these things and only see the impossible, but the journey to self-betterment is not won in grand battles or within a year, it's built gradually and confidently. I look at this list and feel blessed that every one of these things became my own reality 4 years later. I have my own place that's clean and affordable. I have the turbo-charged car I've always wanted and an experimental flying machine to soar beyond the clouds. I love life, and I am free from the modern-day cynicism that traps so many of us. And the reason I feel so strongly looking back at this is because I know this outcome only happened because I worked at it. Bit by bit with confidence, unsure of myself, but strong in where I wanted to go.

As I get older, I'm certain that it's Time that teaches us the best lessons, and we can't let ourselves or what others say get in the way of our own self improvement. There's a common misconception today that we as people need to be absolutely sure of ourselves and our identity before we can achieve the goals we set, but I think that's fundamentally backwards. The only way that meaningful self-change can take place is if we accept and embrace the uncertainty of our own capabilities. What gives us strength to grow and change is not what we've seen before, it's the confidence we have in what we want.
