Are we studying artificial intelligence, or is it studying us? #generalpublic

If we ask ourselves who is actually studying whom, it all becomes like a scene from The Matrix – the blue or red pill. Yes, we are the ones who "control" and study artificial intelligence, at least on paper, but the reality is closer to Orwell’s dystopia in 1984 than to optimistic stories about the future. With every click, like, and post, we reveal parts of ourselves, and AI meticulously records all of it—literally.

Let’s remember Frankenstein, the classic story of a scientist who creates a monster. Who’s the real monster here? While we develop and test AI, we are actually creating a "creature" that, at least for now, doesn’t take up torches and chase us down the streets. Instead, it quietly observes us, learns from our habits, and records every message, search, and purchase. If you think that sounds paranoid, remember HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey. AI there was the perfect assistant until it decided that the human factor was a weakness.

Even Skynet from Terminator wasn’t that scary because it immediately launched nuclear strikes. Today, our AI systems are interested in what you’re buying at the supermarket, what movies you’re watching on Netflix, and how long you scroll through Instagram before feeling guilty about the time spent online. Sounds innocent? Well, maybe... for now.

Let’s also recall the robots from Metropolis. They became instruments of the elite, and with modern AI, the elite are no longer just the rich in high towers—but also the algorithms that you’ve given access to everything you do. Like in some invisible game of chess, AI studies us step by step, analyzing our strategies while we still believe we’re the ones with the plan. In reality, as we often prove unreliable in decision-making, AI is just waiting to discover what our next move will be.

If you think this is just a conspiracy theory, remember how some old sci-fi films, like Idiocracy, have turned out to be prophetic. And how far are we from AI, just like in Westworld, realizing that humans are just part of a simulation it controls? Maybe we’re building AI to study it, but the real mystery is: when will AI realize it’s time to take the reins into its own hands?

While we analyze lines of code and deep learning processes, maybe it’s AI that’s studying us, but not through telescopes and microscopes, rather through every move we make online. Coincidence? Hardly.
