Though we had planned to visit our aunty in Nawalapitiya since January this year, we couldn't do so because of heavy fieldwork in the rice fields. Those plans were postponed day by day. However, we finally decided to visit them before the Sinhala and Hindu New Year. The city of Nawalapitiya, with its picturesque landscaping, is located in the hill capital and is indeed a sight for sore eyes. Having been born in a coastal city, we truly love and always look forward to our yearly trips to see our aunty in Nawalapitiya, mainly because of its unique location in the cold and misty hill country.
To our surprise, the day before we decided to go to Nawalapitiya, Uncle Siriwardena bought us a big, long eel fish because of his usual habit of buying fish for us every time he visited the Negombo fish market(Lellama|). Even though I had told him that we were going out for three days recently, he must have forgotten. He usually brought us fish for two or three days. Now, what is to be done? I used the entire fish to make a fish pickle to take with us to Nawalapitiya, and I also made a very spicy fish chilli paste. Actually, my aunt doesn't get fresh fish at all since they live in the hill capital.
By evening, I had finished preparing everything to take with us to Aunty in Nawalapitiy, and I bottled them after they cooled down. Alas! Right at that moment, my brother arrived with a delicious fresh drink that looked different as well. Looking at the colour, I thought it had to be a pomegranate drink, but it took me some time to realise that the juice was made by soaking raisins in mint leaf juice as only when I bit into a raisin bubble and when the flavours popped out in to my mouth. Of course! my Brother is a genius when it comes to making juices.
Love you All!
