I am investigating security solutions today after Kevin Rose, a well-known long-term tech industry builder and investor, got hacked out of over 25 NFTs from his Metamask wallet. The first solution we will look at for Metamask security against hacks is Stelo. You can trail and test it out if you like to follow along with the community here. We would love to hear your perspective and insights on how you find Stelo works for you.
In early 2023, Kevin Rose, the founder of Digg and a well-known NFT collector, was hacked out of his NFTs. The hacker accessed Rose's digital wallet and extracted $1.7 million worth of NFTs.
Initially, Rose was unable to recover his assets; however, he was eventually able to reclaim them with the help of an outside security firm. Rose's security firm was able to trace the hacker's IP address and contact the relevant authorities to have the stolen funds returned.
The incident highlighted the importance of robust security measures when dealing with digital assets. However, it also raised questions about the security of NFTs in general. To prevent similar incidents in the future, Rose and other NFT collectors should take measures to ensure their digital wallets are secure. This can be done by setting up two-factor authentication or using a cold storage solution. Additionally, users should only purchase NFTs from reputable sources and always double-check the seller's address before sending funds.
Finally, it's important to remember that the best way to protect your NFTs is to keep them offline. By storing them in a cold storage solution, users can.
