Power BI and Excel - Better together - 2023

I conduct lot of coaching sessions for Power BI for large organizations globally.
The commonest mistake I have seen is to ask for training on Power BI.
The problem is - you cannot (rather should not) learn Power BI in isolation.
It is best to learn Excel and Power BI together.
But when I suggest adding Excel topics, there is a lot of resistance.
Why? Because most people "think" that they already know Excel.
I cannot blame them because they have been working on Excel for decades.
Work is getting done, the output is accurate - so naturally, you think you know the product.

Unfortunately, that is completely wrong.
There are thousands of unexplored and unknown features that are very powerful.

Fortunately, 50% of features are exactly the same between Excel and Power BI.
Therefore, by learning them together, you are getting dual benefits.

In this video, we learn the common as well as unique features of Excel and Power BI.


There is a lot of difference. But both are designed to complement each other. Excel and Power BI are not competitors. It is not either-or.

The main difference is the visualization part.
The import and clean-up part is exactly the same in Excel and Power BI.
That is why you can - and you should - use both to your advantage.

Depending upon your needs you can use the right app.

In brief - for traditional calculations and reporting, use Excel.
For interactive visual reports and AI based analytics, use Power BI.
The same data used in both apps will give you ADDITIONAL useful information.
