Beichan, located in the northeastern part of Dinghai District, Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province, covers an area of approximately 25 km². It borders the Yellow Sea to the east, the Zhoushan administrative center (Lincheng) to the south, Baiquan Town to the west, and merges into Baiquan Town since 2013. Its name originated from the ancient term "Bei Chan" (北墠, a sacrificial site in the Yuan Dynasty), later phonetically adapted in local dialect to "Beichan" (北蝉).

''Origins'': Documented since the Yuan Dynasty as "Bei Chan'ao," its name reflects ancient sacrificial rituals. By the Qing Dynasty, dialect pronunciation shifted it to "Beichan".
''Revolutionary Base'': During the Anti-Japanese War (1937–1945), Beichan served as a crucial base for the ''East China Sea Guerrilla Detachment''. In 1989, it was designated a ''"Revolutionary Old District"'' by Zhejiang Province.
