Surviving Nova

Last year, the Nova music festival began as planned in the desert. But as the sun rose on October 7th 2023, Hamas gunmen crossed the border from Gaza launching a surprise attack on Israel. Nova attendees were among the 1,200 people killed and over 250 hostages taken by Hamas according to the Israeli government. The attack quickly turned into the deadliest day in Israel's history.

Israel responded with a declaration of war that has led to over 41,000 Palestinian deaths according to Gaza's Ministry of Health.

VICE News follows survivors of the Nova music festival as well as families of those taken hostage and killed, as they deal with the trauma of the attack while grappling with Israel’s response.
