GRIET CSE E8 HELMET DETECTION AND LICENSEPLATE RECOGNITION

In current situation, we come across various problems in traffic regulations in India
which can be solved with different ideas. Riding motorcycle without wearing helmet
is a traffic violation which has resulted in increase in number of accidents and deaths
in India. Our project proposes a solution for enhancing road safety through helmet
detection and license plate recognition using advanced computer vision techniques,
namely YOLO (You Only Look Once) and CNN (Convolutional Neural Network).
YOLO architecture performs real-time helmet detection and license plate recognition
simultaneously. YOLO's real-time capabilities along with OCR(Optical Character
Recognition) enable efficient object and license detection, while CNNs enhances the
accuracy of identifying helmets and license plates. Through the integration of these
methods, the system can accurately detect and classify helmets worn by motorbike
riders and recognize license plates for identification. In addition, the project aims to
retrieve the details of the registered person associated with a detected motorbike,
facilitating seamless law enforcement and accountability.
