The Business Case for Reusing Emissions to Drive Profit

What if we could recycle carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and turn it into something that generates profit?

Global CO2 emissions have been measured at over 20 billion metric tonnes per year since 1980 and are expected to peak to 40 billion tonnes per year by 2025. Although society is getting more efficient at recycling waste plastics, metals and lighting, we have been inefficient at using the gaseous CO2 emissions which make up the largest percentage of greenhouse gas waste. In fact, we utilize a minute fraction of less than 1% of the CO2 we emit every year.

This upcoming ConocoPhillips IRIS seminar will outline:

Greenhouse gas reduction philosophies
CO2 utilization possibilities

About the speaker:

Apoorv Sinha is the founder and CEO of a carbon utilization technology start-up, Carbon Upcycling Technologies (CUT), that is commercializing a process to convert CO2 emissions into performance-enhancing fillers for concrete, plastics, pharmaceuticals and batteries. CUT is a semi-finalist in the Carbon X-Prize, was an Emissions Reduction Alberta Grand Challenge semi-finalist, and has received support from various provincial and federal entities in Canada.

In April 2017, CUT became the world's youngest CO2 utilization company to generate commercial revenue, within 2.5 years of commencing operations. Sinha is a member of the Energy Futures Lab, a 2016 Leading Change delegate, a Clean50 Emerging Leader 2016, and serves on the Alberta Clean Technology Industry Alliance (ACTia) Board of Directors.
