Nagoya Mayor Ichiro Hirosawa held a regular press conference at City Hall on the 14th. Regarding reports that the government and ruling party are considering providing cash payments to citizens in response to the tariff policy of the Trump administration in the United States, he expressed a negative view, saying, "There are many voices calling for tax cuts in the world, and the decision to shift to cash payments seems to mean that they really don't want to cut taxes."
Mayor Hirosawa said, "I think that tax cuts are more effective in gradually improving the economy as money remains in people's wallets without them realizing it, and this will continue to happen next year and the year after." He also said, "I wonder what you think about cutting taxes with the idea that we are giving back because the Democratic Party for the People's tax revenue has increased. Will we increase taxes when the economy is bad? In fact, it is precisely when the economy is bad that we should cut taxes and stimulate consumption."
Regarding the Osaka-Kansai Expo, which opened on the 13th, he predicted, "There is criticism of such large events in advance, but once they start, many people will want to go because it's a good opportunity. If things continue as they are now, the Kansai Expo will probably be a success."
