In order to create AGI, we first need to establish our notation. Our first step is to investigate Friston’s use of “Psi,” which appeared in Friston (2013, 2015), and is the means by which Friston references external or “hidden” states. Establishing a distinction between the external world and our internal (AGI) system follows a directive from G. Spencer Brown’s 1969 book, “The Laws of Form,” where the first step is to “draw a distinction.” This is important for AGI, because as the AGI gains capabilities, it will need to understand the difference between “self” and “other,” which will be a necessary step if we will ever install Asimov’s “Laws of Robotics.”
