The AEG factory has had a profound impact on both architectural history as well as industrial buildings that came after it, and perhaps what's most amazing is that it's still being used for the same purpose it was built for over 110 years ago!
Built back in 1909 with Peter Behrens as the architect and Karl Bernhard as the engineer it was originally 403' long, but expanded to over 650' in 1939.
It also has 82' high ceilings!
The building was constructed for production of steam turbines (engines that use pressurized steam to generate electricity).
Franz Hessel wrote, "There is no lovelier building than that monumental hall of glass and reinforced concrete: the Peter Behrens turbine factory on Huttenstrasse."
