For the past few years, our friends at Tio Conejo have imported coffees from Diego Samuel for us—and now we’re thrilled to offer a natural Geisha from their own farm! As farmers, exporters, and importers this is as direct trade as you can get. In fact, they hand delivered to us our first coffee from Diego Samuel, that was a first for us! Their family-run farm in Caldas, Colombia sits at 2000 meters above sea level and with a few guest houses you can make a vacation out of visiting them!
The Geisha matures slowly on the tree with cool nights, imparting complex sugars into the cherry—in fact, if you picked a ripe Geisha cherry right from the tree, you’d taste a mixture of wild, extra sweet, juicy, and tropical flavors. This makes them the perfect candidate to be processed dry on raised beds as a naturals. You’ll taste strawberry lemonade, honeysuckle, kiwi, and tamarind here, with high acidity and little notes of chocolate or ferment that can sometimes overpower naturals.
Although this famed variety first gained international acclaim in Panama, it is likely a transplant variety from Ethiopia, making its true origins a bit of a mystery. Give it a taste and see if you can solve it!
