The Legend of the Bear Lake Monster #cryptids #monster #interestingfacts #scary #myths

Discover the Bear Lake Monster, a mysterious creature of folklore near the Utah-Idaho border. Descriptions vary, but it is said to resemble a serpent with 18-inch legs, marauding along the shoreline. Sightings reported a large undulating body, around 30 feet long, cream-colored, swiftly moving through the water. Its head has been compared to a cow, otter, crocodile, or walrus. Some sightings mention spikes along its spine and even smaller monsters. Initially written by Joseph C. Rich in the 19th century, the monster became a tourist attraction and sparked excitement among settlers. The LDS Church leaders even investigated the sightings. Over the years, interest fluctuated, and Rich eventually confessed to fabricating the original tales. Nonetheless, sightings persisted, with the last reported one in 2002. The Bear Lake Monster has become part of local folklore, celebrated through activities like the Bear Lake Monster Boat and Raspberry Days parade.
