This is a guide on replacing a screen on an Asus TUF Model: FX516P.
For the replacement process we will need the following tools:
a Heat gun
Several plastic picks
and an X-acto knife
To begin turn the laptop off and disconnect the power cord.
Start removing the bezel. Pull the inner edge of the bezel away from the glass unsnapping the tabs underneath
Start from the left side and then go around the perimeter. Put the bezel aside.
The LCD screen is glued to the back cover. There are plastic pull tabs at the bottom that can be used to remove the glue from underneath the LCD. But since that doesn't always work easily and also destroys the adhesive, a less invasive procedure is preferred.
We'll use a heat gun to soften the glue instead. Warm up the left and right sides of the top cover. Using plastic pick start gently separating the LCD screen. Use a second plastic pick to prevent the screen from sticking back. Use the heat gun repeatedly on both sides to make sure the glue
is soft. Continue separating the LCD screen using a third plastic pick on the right side. Move the pick along
the edge. Use an X-acto knife to cut strands of glue between the LCD and the back cover. Move the plastic pick along the edge on the left side.
Separate the LCD screen and place it on the keyboard.
The video connector is secured with clear tape. Gently peel off the tape and disconnect the video cable.
Discard the old panel.
Take the new LCD screen and place it on the keyboard. Reconnect the video cable. Secure connector with
a clear tape.
CAUTION! It is very important not to force any of the connectors. As well you must not twist or slant the connector
when plugging it in.
Lift the screen up. Secure it in vertical position. Before we continue it is good to check if the screen is working. Press the power button and if the start up graphics appears we can finish the installation process. Turn the laptop off.
In order to glue the LCD screen to the back cover we are going to use High-strength, anti-static, stretch release adhesive strips which you can buy on our site: laptopscreen.com. Apply one strip on each side of the back cover making sure the pull tabs are sticking out from under the screen. Remove the protective film from the strips.
Lift the LCD screen up and press firmly along the sides to glue the screen to back cover. Replace the bezel.
Start from the bottom, make sure the screen protective film tab stays inside the frame. Go around the perimeter
snapping tabs back in place. At this point you can remove the protective film.
Turn the laptop on. And we are done!
