“Copying" isn’t bad, but are you doing it right? 🤔
🦉 A great artist is like an owl. You have to observe A LOT before making that one stroke.
The secret is actually studying other artwork; not just copying blindly, but understanding them.
For me, art studies are the key. Rather than trying to replicate everything in a photo, break it down! Focus on one thing at a time—whether it's light, folds, or how colors interact. The more precise you are on what you want to study the easier it will be to remember your discoveries.
Here I could study how much the environment can affect the color of the shadows. I would have picked whatever random dark color, but here I did notice that most of them have a green undertone due to the grass that’s surrounding the character.
That’s a new thing I can use in future illustrations! Boom! Knowledge unlocked!
🦉Have you done any art studies late
