In this video, I have shown how to design a simple Arduino based Digital Tachometer or RPM Counter on a breadboard.
The whole process explained in steps so that you don't face any difficulty in making the Arduino circuit. Here I have used Arduino Nano but you can use Arduino Uno also to design this Arduino based project.
In this video, I have also explained the function of each PIN of the 16X2 LCD Display so that you can do the modification in the circuit if you need.
Required Material for this Arduino Project [with Affiliated link]:
1. Arduino Nano:- http://amzn.to/2sa1N85
2. IR Sensor module:- http://amzn.to/2rtYcpb
3. LCD Display (JHD162A):- http://amzn.to/2qvOCNI
4. Trimmer 100 Kohm:- http://amzn.to/2r1d78K
5. Breadboard:- http://amzn.to/2r9w4Vj
6. 5 volt DC supply
[**You can supply the circuit with 9 v battery but it is not recommended So please refer the video link • How to use LM7805 regulator in 5 volt dc p... to make a simple 5 volt DC Source with 9 v battery]

Working Principle of this RPM counter:
When the motor starts rotating the IR module generates a pulse for each full revolution and this pulse fed to Arduino D2 pin. After receiving the pulse from the IR module Arduino count the total number of pulse receive in 1 second and calculate the speed of the motor in RPM scale with the help of installed program. Then the value or reading is transmitted through 4-bit parallel data pin to LCD display. Thus we can see the motor speed [RPM] in LCD display in real time.
