A piece I wrote called ‘Maggie’. My ideas behind this are lower down in the description, but I would rather people watched the video first before reading the programme note.

Watched it now? Good.
I primarily intended this piece as a rant about Margaret Thatcher. The introduction is meant to sound as sarcastic as possible, hence the repeated fist smashes interrupting the slow, gentle theme, and the snippet of ‘God Save the Queen’ made to sound dissonant with major 7ths.
The main building block of this piece is the chant ‘Maggie Maggie Maggie – out out out/dead dead dead’, which recurs throughout. There are also other leftist political themes in the piece, such as repeated use of the notes/chords ACAB/1-3-1-2 (all cops are bastards). At one point I also use the rhythm of an ACAB chant I heard at a demonstration. I used one of the stingers from Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, as well as some cinematic references, including nods towards Psycho, American Psycho, and The Wizard of Oz.
If you managed to pick up on any of the references, I will give you an internet cookie.
