If you are singing with a closed throat your voice has to work overtime to produce sound. You can fix this by singing with an open throat. When you breathe in try to lift the roof of your mouth while at the same time flattening out the back of your tongue. This will create a huge space in the back of your throat for your tone to amplify.

You won't have to work hard to create a powerful resonant voice. It will happen naturally. You just have to maintain an open throat while you sing.
