USS America flight deck operations in 1967

On June 16, 1967, the USS America, a Kitty Hawk-class aircraft carrier, was operating in the Mediterranean Sea with the Sixth Fleet during its second deployment (January–September 1967). This was shortly after the Six-Day War (June 5–10, 1967), during which the carrier played a limited role, notably responding to the USS Liberty incident on June 8. The USS America, carrying Carrier Air Wing 6 with an estimated 24–28 F-4B Phantom IIs among other aircraft, was engaged in routine flight operations, exercises, and maintaining readiness amidst regional tensions.
