A deep cleaning is a “slang phrase” for scaling and root planing (SRP) which is a therapeutic procedure to remove dental disease from the gums.

Deep cleanings are not “better” cleanings than regular cleanings. They are totally different things. If you have healthy gums, you would get a regular cleaning to prevent disease. But if you have unhealthy gums, you would need SRP to bring your gums back to health.
