Even policemen not required to do moral policing, says SC

Moral Policing in India – Right or Wrong?
"It is highly unfortunate that police who is supposed to safeguard the rights of citizens, itself take part in moral policing.
There have been many instances of moral policing by police officials especially for harrassing, assaulting and blackmailing youth. Disturbing couples in parks, raiding hotels and embarassing consenting couples, blackmailing for favours have been rampant across the country.
It's high time we understand that there is no such power given to police officials which empower them to harrass public in name of moral policing.
We appeal to authorities to make changes in criminal justice system and sensitize police officials regarding changing morality of society. We appeal that these century old provisions regarding obscenity be amended to ensure that no such loophole in provisions of law give shelter to police officials to harass people in name of moral policing.
