The flow around the generic side mirror of a car or a train is a typical benchmark simulation for turbulent flows. The side mirror is modeled by a half cylinder and a quarter of a sphere, and it is attached to a flat plate representing the side of the vehicle.
The side mirror is subjected to an external flow of magnitude 25 m/s, and Reynolds number equal to 500,000.
This simulation has been conducted fully in parallel with the open source lattice Boltzmann software library Palabos.
