Symbolic Convergence Theory

Symbolic Convergence Theory looks at the fantasy themes and stories that groups tell and retell that both signals and creates group cohesion. Ernest Bormann introduced Symbolic Convergence Theory (sometimes called Fantasy Theme Analysis) to explain the way groups come together, use fantasy themes, fantasy chains, and symbolic cues to trigger the re-telling of various stories that both transport the group but also further solidify group membership.
