India has recently overtaken Japan to become the world’s fourth-largest economy, according to NITI Aayog. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) projects that India will surpass Germany by 2028 to become the third-largest economy globally. In 2024, India was the fifth-largest economy, but it is now expected to be the fastest-growing major economy over the next two years. The IMF forecasts India’s GDP growth at 6.2% in 2025 and 6.3% in 2026, with the country's nominal GDP estimated to reach approximately $4.19 trillion in FY26, as stated in the April edition of the World Economic Outlook.
