New Zealand’s parliament was briefly suspended on Thursday after members of opposition parties joined Te Pāti Māori MP Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke in a staged haka — a ceremonial dance and staple in the Indigenous Māori culture. The haka came as a protest to a contentious new bill from the ACT New Zealand party, which aims to reinterpret a 184-year-old treaty between the British Crown and the Māori.
