This simulation shows a high level of complexity due to its turbulent multi-phase nature and the presence of moving parts. The open source software library Palabos was used to produce these results. This example shows that coping with all the relevant mechanisms of a model is never an issue for Palabos software, due to its stable and fully parallel structure.
In the present animation, a heavy (initially at the bottom) and light (initially on top) fluid are mixed by the rotor. Once the rotor stops, they immediately start to separate due to their different density and their chemical immiscibility.
