How to Export Mangoes from India

Want to turn India’s king of fruits into a golden export opportunity? Here’s how YOU can export mangoes and build a successful business — step by step

1. Source Directly from Farms:
Partner with certified mango orchards (especially in regions like Ratnagiri, Andhra, or Gujarat). Ensure Global GAP or APEDA registration for traceability and quality compliance.

2. Sorting & Grading:
At collection centers, mangoes are sorted by variety (Alphonso, Kesar, etc.), size, and ripeness. Grading is done to meet export market standards — Class I, Class II, etc.

3. Post-Harvest Treatments:
Depending on the buyer country, different treatments are mandatory:
• Hot Water Treatment (HWT): Mangoes are dipped in 48°C water for 60-90 minutes to kill fruit flies (common for Japan, South Korea).
• Irradiation Process (E-Radiation): Required for the USA, mangoes are sent to approved irradiation centers like in Nashik or Vashi.
• Vapor Heat Treatment (VHT): For Australia & New Zealand. Mangoes are steamed to eliminate pests without damaging quality.

4. Packaging Like a Pro:
After treatment, mangoes are air-dried, then packed in ventilated corrugated fiberboard boxes with proper cushioning and stickers (origin, grade, weight, etc.).

5. Export Documentation:
• Phytosanitary Certificate (from NPPO)
• APEDA RCMC
• Packing List & Commercial Invoice
• Certificate of Origin
• Bill of Lading/Airway Bill
• FSSAI License
• Buyer’s Import Permit (if required)

6. Ship to the World!
Choose air freight for faster delivery or reefer container (sea) for bulk. Ensure cold chain logistics to maintain freshness till it reaches shelves abroad.

Export mangoes = export profits.
The world craves Indian mangoes — why shouldn’t YOU be the one supplying them?
