The VRIO analysis assesses the strength of the company's core competencies.
The VRIO analysis was developed by Jay B. Barney, an American professor of strategic management at the University of Utah. The model was published in the Journal of Management in 1991, Vol. 17, No. 1, 99-120. The article's title is ”Firm Resources and Sustained Competitive Advantage”.
The VRIO analysis is part of a resource-based theory, which examines the relationship between a company's internal characteristics and its performance.
