DAY 3 of learning languages on my own terms via traveling the world

If you tend to be a language learning perfectionist, day 3 is just for you!

I was feeling incredibly down on myself and regretting having not prepared "enough" for taking an official language exam. All the emotions flooded any hope I had of finding a solution (because no matter how hopeless our path to fluency can sometimes feel, there's IS always a solution, but how deeply it's buried within us is a whole other story). It doesn't help that my identity as a language learner is tied to past academic performance (super hard to know what to let go of during our school days!).

And yet, what would happen if we could just let those uncomfortable emotions simply be? What if we could notice they're there, but use our energy for practicing acceptance and less self-judgment (which gently leads us towards a solution and clears our minds) instead of wishing our frustration would go away, then feeling stuck there? Easier said than done I know, and I still have trouble counteracting it sometimes whenever trying something new in language learning. But I've always found that when I do start investing my energy into acceptance and looking at the facts themselves, a bridge to a solution gradually starts to form.

So if you've been feeling like there just isn't a solution to a language problem you're currently facing, ask yourself: in what other ways can I invest my energy? In what other shades does help for me come in? What's one simple step I can take that will guide me towards taking action that's most aligned with who I am?
I'm right there with you!
