Q: What exactly is "SCADA programming?"
A: "SCADA programming" isn't an exact concept, but it generally means a few common aspects of required SCADA setup. You might be setting up either your central HMI (master station) or remote RTUs/PLCs.
When/how will you be notified? Will you receive an SMS text message? Will an icon blink on your HMI display? "SCADA programming" also includes the layout of your HMI screen. If you have a manufacturing or processing facility, you'll probably choose a diagram that represents your process flow. If you have a distributed network (ex. telecom, eletric utility, water treatment plant), it's more likely that you'll use a geographic map. With a more intelligent SCADA system, you'll likely be able to program it to respond automatically to certain conditions. This reduces the time and money you'll spend monitoring your operation, while still protecting your revenue and reducing your maintenance and repair costs.
