Alberta Oil Sands Past and Present: Critical Gaps in the Regulatory Framework

In 2007, a comprehensive review was conducted of the regulatory framework for oil sands development in Alberta. In this research, several gaps and deficiencies were identified. What has changed in the last 10 years? What issues and challenges remain?

About the speaker(s):

Nickie Nikolaou is an Associate Professor with the Faculty of Law at the University of Calgary and currently the Associate Dean Academic. She is also an Affiliated Faculty Member with the Canadian Institute of Resources Law. After completing her B.A. at the University of Saskatchewan and her LL.B. at the University of Alberta, Nickie completed her LL.M. at the University of Calgary with a specialization in natural resources and environmental law. She has been with the Faculty since 2007 researching, writing and teaching in the areas of natural resources, environmental and property law.
