Caty: Horses are big and strong. Riding them takes skill and strength. So, is the idiom “hold your horses” about controlling horses?

Anna: Andrew, the box!
Andrew: I’m on the last page.
Anna: It’s really heavy!
Andrew: Hold your horses! What’s in the box?
Anna: Horses!

Caty: “Hold your horses” is a way of telling someone to wait, to be patient. It’s very informal. And depending on how you say it, it could sound rude!
