On February 6th 2023, two massive earthquakes rippled through Türkiye and Syria. Seismic waves were felt across the globe, so what actually caused these major quakes?

Underneath the Earth’s surface, our world is made up of tectonic plates. They’re a bit like jigsaw pieces that make up the Earth’s crust and they’re essentially floating on molten rock below them. That means they’re constantly moving. It’s this movement that creates earthquakes.
