Regional Climate Models (RCMs) simulate monthly temperature rises over Ireland for period 2021-2100

The spiral animation presents projected monthly temperature rises over Ireland for the period 2021-2100 as simulated by an ensemble of Regional Climate Models (RCMs). The future monthly means are compared with the historical 30-year monthly means of 1976-2005. The Irish climate was simulated at high-spatial resolution (~4km) using the COSMO-CLM and WRF RCMs to downscale the following CMIP5 global datasets; CNRM-CM5, EC-EARTH, HadGEM2-ES, MIROC5 and MPI-ESM-LR. To account for the uncertainty in future greenhouse gas emissions, the future climate was simulated under the RCP2.6, RCP4.5, RCP6.0 and RCP8.5 scenarios (the spiral animation shows RCP8.5).
