‘Our weapons are not for surrender’ says leader of Syria’s men of dignity

In a video posted to the Syria-based Men of Dignity Facebook page, Sheikh Yahia al-Hajjar, commander-in-chief of the Men of Dignity Druze movement in Suwayda, said that the group will not be handing over its weapons.

“Our weapons are not for surrender. They are for the defence of our land,” said al-Hajjar.

“Our weapons are for dignity,” he added.

Deadly clashes between pro-government fighters and local Druze gunmen erupted last Tuesday, partly in response to a now-debunked audio clip allegedly featuring a Druze cleric insulting the Prophet Muhammad.
