The legendary Black Sheep Squadron didn't end with Pappy Boyington's capture in WWII. After flying final missions over the Pacific, VMF-214 reformed aboard the USS Franklin and kept fighting to the end of the war. They returned to combat in the Korean War and again in Vietnam, evolving from piston-engine fighters to jets. Today, they fly the F-35B Lightning II from MCAS Yuma as VMA-214.
