DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) is developing standardized compatible systems and design guidelines for home appliances, portable devices and PC manufacturers. DLNA pursues the cooperative development of platforms, devices and applications.
In terms of wired and wireless home network for home appliance, PC and wireless devices, guide line version 1.0 unveiled by DLNA last year, provides design standards to share contents among brands. Products designed according to these guidelines share media content including music, photos and video through the home network.
DHWG founding companies such as LG, Fujitsu, Gateway, HP, Intel, IBM, Kenwood, Renovo, Microsoft, NEC, Nokia, Panasonic, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd, Philips, Sharp, Sony, ST Microelectronics and Thomson lead DLNA and 140 companies have joined the DLNA altogether.
DLNA also aims to add company guidelines based on industry standards, used extensively among home appliances, PCs and wireless device manufacturers, such as IP, HTTP, UPnP and Wi-Fi. Through standards-based DLNA 1.0 and starting with product authentication in late 2005, DLNA 1.5 and 2.0 will be complete in early 2006 and late 2006 respectively. Rapid market expansion is expected accordingly.
