"Hear from Professor Janet Barlow, from the University of Reading on her work in #urban #meteorology, looking at the way buildings and the atmosphere interact with each other.
In the face of #climatechange, there is a pressing need to make buildings more #energyefficient with buildings constituting about 45% of UK CO2 emissions. In the rush to make buildings more energy efficient, however, there is a danger of giving up human performance within them.
Professor Janet Barlow's work looks at if new ventilation systems, designed for energy efficiency, are properly optimised for human performance. The knowledge economy is very important for the uk, making up around 12% of gdp. There is a need to think about how we as human beings perform in buildings and question whether we're designing the buildings in the right way.
