English in a Minute: Stuck in a Rut

English in a Minute: Stuck in a Rut

Caty: Welcome to English in a Minute! A rut in a dirt road can make wheels get stuck. But what does it mean if a person is “stuck in a rut?”

Anna: Uh…Andrew, why are you wearing that wig?
Andrew: I know it looks funny, but I feel like I’ve been stuck in a rut. I’m just trying to change things up and feel more creative and different!
Anna: Got it! Is it working?
Andrew: I think it’s just making my head hot.

Caty: To be “stuck in a rut” means you feel like you do the same thing over and over and need a change. But maybe that is not the change Andrew needs.
