China under attack: Storms and floods submerge Hunan, destroying homes and cars

Severe weather swept across southern China on Tuesday, causing widespread chaos and damage. In Changsha, Hunan Province, torrential rains poured down overnight, quickly turning the crowded city into a sea, flooding from the city center to the suburbs. The downpour came suddenly and within an hour, the total rainfall had soared to more than 60 mm, with some districts in Changsha and Liuyang recording more than 100 mm. Chinese people are in dire straits as they continue to endure storms, floods and hailstorms that have destroyed crops, damaged homes, vehicles and killed livestock. People's lives were already difficult, and the back-to-back bouts of unusual weather have made them even more desperate.
