Gateway Games: Lagos athletes survive bus accident en route to Ogun State

In a minor setback for Lagos State, a bus carrying five members of their logistics team to the 22nd National Sports Festival in Ogun State was involved in an accident on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway today, May 16, 2025, due to a reported tyre burst.

Thankfully, no fatalities occurred, and all individuals were safely evacuated.

Five to six team members were hospitalized but are in stable condition, receiving prompt medical care.

Emergency services acted swiftly, ensuring no serious injuries.

Lagos State’s General Captain, Olowo Adewale, described the incident as minor and expressed gratitude for the team’s safety. Over 750 Lagos athletes arrived at the Gateway Games camp by 3:05 PM, ready to compete in the festival, running until May 30, 2025.
