Semantics (Explained in 3 Minutes)

Semantics is the study of meaning in language. It focuses on how words, phrases, and sentences convey meaning and how people interpret and understand those meanings in different contexts.

At its core, semantics examines the relationship between linguistic expressions (like words and sentences) and their meanings. This includes looking at literal meaning—what the words themselves represent—and contextual meaning, which depends on how the words are used in a specific situation. For example, the phrase "I'm fine" might literally mean "I’m okay," but in a certain tone or context, it could imply the opposite.
