Onomichi, Hiroshima,Japan: A City of Literature and Movies

On the last day of my three-day trip to Hiroshima, I went to Onomichi. Onomichi, a picturesque town nestled between the Seto Inland Sea and the mountains, is known as a filming location for many movies and a favorite place of literary figures, and I enjoyed its emotional atmosphere. Onomichi is not only the setting of “Toki wo kakeru shojo” or ”The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" starring Tomoyo Harada, which I saw when I was in high school. I was surprised to learn that it is also the location of "Tokyo Story", directed by Yasujiro Ozu, that was selected as one of the 100 greatest movies of all time by TIME magazine. I took a ferry to Mukaishima Island, took a ropeway to Senkoji Temple, and had the famous Onomichi ramen noodles.
